We are a non-profit organization situated on the south side of Pigeon Lake and dedicated to the quality of life for everyone in our community. Founded in 1973, the Society's members were largely made up of people with an agricultural background. Over the years, the membership has developed into a more balanced community made up of families that have moved into the area to either retire or work. For this reason, the Society has grown to be more diverse in its programming and events to accommodate this change.

	Mister V	Mr. V's In the beginning... The ground on which Mr. V's is located has a very long and varied past dating from billions of years ago. The early part of the Mr. V's history can be only be deciphered by interpretation of the underlying rock obtained by deep drilling for oil and gas deposits. These drill holes go down more than 2000 feet and over 1.8 billion years of earth history. At the very bottom of these holes is what is called the "basement rock" that is composed of crystalline minerals as a result of massive heat and pressure some 1.8 billion years ago in the Hudsonian orogeny. These rocks formed as granite and gneiss (pronounced "nice") in the Churchill rock province.

Our operation includes our Purebred Simmental cattle business as well as our garden, u-pick and Greenhouse operation during the summer. We got involved in the Simmental business in 1983 and have always concentrated on raising mid-sized, easy keeping cattle with an emphasis on fertility, milk and feed efficiency. That has been very important, especially in the last few dry years! We raise bulls with the commercial cattleman in mind. The bulls must grow well, be thick and easy moving. We sell most of our cattle privately, as well consign to a few select sales such as the "Heartland Sale" in Red Deer in November, the "Red and Black" sale in Red Deer in December, the "Cardston Bull Test" sale in Lethbridge in April, and the "High River Select Bull Sale", also in April - and of course, we have been guest consigners at the "Bar 15 Sale" for the last 13 years!

After Eric and Ruby finished their studies at the University of Alberta, majoring in Agriculture Economics and Business respectively, they decided to commit to farming on a full time basis. Since then, they have put their minds and souls into their market garden business and have built and nurtured it with love. Eric has been practicing organic farming since the 1990's but did not apply for organic certification until the year 2000.
